Frank McKelvey
Frank Mckelvey RHA. RUA. Mckelvey was born in Belfast in 1895. He attended the Belfast School of Art where he won two prizes for life drawing and a further two prizes in national composition. He exhibited first with the RHA 1918, from then until 1973 with out fail he never missed a year exhibiting with the Academy. He along with other artist’s from Ulster including J Hubert. Craig and Paul Henry became a well known landscape painter. He was one of the first members of the RUA when it was formed in the 1930’s. His favourite painting area was Donegal and the West of Ireland where he depicts the rugged scenery of the Irish landscape. There is romanticism to Mcklevey works as can be seen with his contemporises. His work is held by many public collections in both Ireland and Britain.
